Drifting through the Galaxy

The galaxy is host to a myriad of nomadic fleets, travelling silently towards their next harbour, in the hopes of finding the resources to push further. There is no grand scheme, no big picture, only the struggle of day-to-day survival.

Void currents are a natural phenomenon of space time dilation occurring in interstellar space, observed exclusively going counterclockwise to the galaxy’s rotation. They can be ridden by physical bodies, effectively enabling faster-than-light travel through the current. They differ from wormholes as they can, in principle, be entered and exited at any points - but those that ride them must follow their current. While void currents are an undeniable asset to and a necessity of space travel, this particularity has led to many spacefaring civilizations to become nomadic fleet-based factions, as once a voidcraft enters a current, there is no reliable way to come back to its point in ingress, short of a complete tour of the galaxy.

Scions dreams of godhood shattered on the shores of reality, while Scraps still pretend they fooled death in their final gambit. There is no grand scheme, there is no greater purpose. All that really matters is delaying the inevitable. The void is a cold place, and it will be our grave.”
